The Greenhouse Energy Guide Simulator is an online tool for calculating the effects of different (combinations of) renewable energy sources on the environmental foodprint, expressed in energy consumption, crop performance, variable costs and CO2-emission according to the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).

Users can create a digital twin of an existing greenhouse or future greenhouse, for a range of different geographical locations and crops, where they can fully customize greenhouse configuration and energy sources to their own insights.

The simulator can be used in 2 different This means that the CO2-emission from fuel combustion is counted as contribution to emissions (each fuel has its own conversion factor per unit of fuel). Emissions related to import of commodities to a greenhouse (e.g. electricity, heat, fertilizer) are not attributed to the greenhouse enterprise. The other way around, savings on CO2 emission by third parties because of services from a greenhouse (heat, electricity or CO2 supply) are not subtracted from the greenhouse CO2 emission.

With the simulator, users can define different scenarios of greenhouse concepts for a number of geographical locations and crops. The simulation model produces benchmark figures and by comparing the results of different scenarios, a customized sensitivity analyses can be made.

The simulator has 2 user-modes:

  • Anonymous mode

  • Registered user mode

The anonymous mode is available without registration and allows anyone to create and simulate scenarios, with an overview of the results of the last and previous previous simulation. Anonymous users are able to change the basic scenario parameters where defaults are used for the advanced parameters.

Registererd Registered users can create, save and compare multiple scenarios and have access to the advanced scenario parameters.
