Zoals gezegd in §2As mentioned in §2.1, vezelhennep is contracteelt en de afnemer van de oogst levert meestal ook het zaad en geeft teeltadvies. Bij de keuze voor een specifiek ras –dat ook wel een variëteit, soort of cultivar wordt genoemd– speelt een aantal factoren een rol: de beoogde toepassing, de gewenste kwaliteit van het beoogde materiaal, de opbrengst per hectare, de bodemgesteldheid en het klimaat (§3.2). Voor toepassing in textiel (§3.3) zijn bijvoorbeeld andere rassen en teeltcondities gewenst dan de condities die zeer geschikt zijn voor technische toepassingen zoals composieten (§3.4). Ook dient het zaad, zoals voor alle gewassen, gecertificeerd te zijn (§3hemp is best grown under contract and the buyer of the crop usually supplies the seed and provides cultivation advice as well. When choosing a specific variety a number of factors play an important role: the intended application, the desired quality of the intended material, the yield per hectare, the soil conditions and the climatic conditions (§3.2). For example, different varieties and growing conditions are desired for application in textiles (§3.3) than those highly suitable for technical applications such as composites (§3.4). Also, as for all crops, the seed should be certified (§3.1).
