De plantlengte is bij voorkeur 220 cm of iets meer. Speciale oogstmachines snijden de stengels machinaal in 2 stukken van ca. 1 m en leggen deze parallel op zwad op het veld. Op deze wijze kunnen de stengels na roten (§5.4) verwerkt worden op een vlaszwingellijn (The plant length is preferably 220 cm or slightly more. Special harvesters mechanically cut the stalks into two pieces of about 1 m and lay them parallel on windrows in the field. This way, the stalks can be processed on a flax scutching line (§7.1.1) after retting (§5.4).
