Matten op basis van hennepvezels zijn heel geschikt als groeisubstaat in de tuinbouw. De vezels hebben een goed waterhoudend vermogen, en de open structuur zorgt voor luchttoevoer naar de wortels.[1] Deze matten zijn met name geschikt voor korte teelten. En tevens als bodembedekker ter onderdrukking van de groei van onkruid en mos.[2]
Door vernaalding van de vezels is geen binder nodig; de mat is dus 100% hennepvezel. Daardoor zijn de matten ook volledig bioafbreekbaar in de bodem en in compostering.
