Linkage mapping and bulk segregant analysis

Sweet quinoa lines exist (e.g. Kurmi and Atlas) but nothing is known about the underlying responsible genes and no molecular markers are available to speed up breeding. With the aim to develop markers and find the genes underlying the trait, QTL linkage mapping and Bulked Segregant Analysis (BSA) were performed.

  • Q: What is QTL linkage mapping?
  • Q: What is BSA?

The requirements to perform linkage mapping are:

1) Mapping population

2) Phenotype of trait

3) Segregating makers (SNPs)

4) Genotyping of mapping population

In the next steps we will go through these points to learn how a QTL for saponin content was mapped in Quinoa.
