2.4. Mitigating malnutrition

2.4. Mitigating malnutrition

Different strategies exist to alleviate malnutrition. In populations with under nutrition and micronutrient deficiencies we use strategies like supplementation, fortification (adding nutrients to the food product), diversification of the diet, biofortification and other strategies to improve the nutritional status of the people. Depending on the local context and the nutrients lacking in the diet, (a combination of) different strategies are used. Cost efficiency, scalability and sustainability of the intervention are important considerations here.
