Genetic markers can be used in a number of applications in a breeding program.

  • Parentage verification with micro’s or a limited amount of SNPs

  • Identification of genes, or genomic regions, related to a certain trait

  • Test for carrying a certain heritable disorders for which a DNA test is available

  • Genomic selection with a very large number of SNPs
